Is it possible to assemble a jig saw with their own hands?
A legitimate question is whether it is possible to make a benchtop machine from a handheld jigsaw? This would significantly expand the possibilities of processing workpieces, as the narrow vertical saw blade allows you to perform not only straight, but also shaped cuts.
One of the common tasks encountered in the home is cutting laths and bars of a given size. Special machines are available for their production, but they are expensive. An electric jigsaw has enough power to prepare lumber for repair and construction work. It may be advisable to buy a jigsaw machine or make it yourself.
The necessary procedure
- To make a homemade jigsaw machine, you will first need to slightly modify the electric jigsaw, which will serve as the drive of the machine. Refinement consists in the preparation of tapped holes in the support foot, designed for attachment to the base.
- The next step is to make the support table from sheet metal. In the support table it is necessary to make a through channel for the saw blade and holes for the mounting screws. Then attach the jigsaw to the support table with screws. It is recommended to use countersunk screws.
- The module thus obtained is mounted on the table top of a wooden table so that the drive is positioned under the table top and only the saw blade protrudes above the surface. A guide rail can be installed on the table surface to limit the width of the blanks to be cut. If you need to use the hand jigsaw in the usual way, it is enough to detach it by unscrewing the screws.
Jigsaw machine will be appropriate even in the presence of a circular saw, as in addition to straight cuts with its help you can perform shaped cuts.
