Most fans of self-employment at home use jigsaws. There are quite a few such tools. However, if you do not want to buy a jigsaw, make your own jigsaw with your own hands from improvised materials.
From a sewing machine into a jigsaw
In this case, we have in mind not an electric, but a mechanical version of an old sewing machine. 
Such a rarity makes wonderful hand jigsaws for cutting plywood, balsa and plastic. To make a quality tool, follow the clear sequence of actions below:
- First, the thread weaving mechanism must be removed by unscrewing the two bolts;
- This mechanism has a drive shaft, remove it by first knocking out the cotter pin;
- now unscrew the protective panel, and the hole through which the needle moves, expand to the thickness of the saw;
- then prepare the saw – cut the length of the saw so that it became equal to the length of the needle. Do not forget to grind the top teeth and the bottom of the file, the teeth – with a file, the bottom – at the tip;
- and now carefully insert the saw into the needle holder.
If you do everything according to the same scheme, but the machine will be electric, you can get a pretty good electric jigsaw. Finally, to be sure that our mechanism is in good working order, turn the wheel of the machine, check whether the panel or the foot is in contact with the saw.
Writing desk, turning you into a jigsaw!
This method of self-inventing the jigsaw is more complicated, but also practical. To build a jigsaw from a desk, we will need:
- plywood;
- Jigsaw of any model;
- Manual jigsaw;
- desk.
So, we make a “swing” – a device to connect the jigsaw to the power tool. The power unit is just a jigsaw fixed with screws under the table surface. We make a through hole for a saw, and then, above the power tool we set “swings” and between them we fix a saw: one end – to a jigsaw, one to a wheel of “swings”.
Now we take a plate of metal, twist like this: the mount on one side and the hook on the other. On the button to start the machine put a hook, the other side connect to a wooden plane – we get the pedal of the working start.
Will I make a jigsaw myself or will I spend money?
A jigsaw is not a jigsaw! Especially if you make it yourself – as many people, so many ways, not to mention the variation of designs that result. However, most of the jigsaw conversion work is done for a single purpose – to make a machine tool out of it. Considering the fact that the process is not much different from the previously mentioned – it is easy. But do not forget about the parameters of the necessary materials.
Attention! For volume projects, such machines are not suitable.
Self-made jigsaws can be made in a variety of ways, getting different designs and purposes. There are many types of jigsaws-machines, too – from the most complicated to the primitive. Don’t overcomplicate the scheme – it will only take time, and the result may not justify itself. Need high-quality equipment? It can only be bought. A “homemade” is good for less grandiose purposes.
