If we talk about the standard dimensions of saws for jigsaws, the currently produced saws (saw blades) for jigsaws usually have a length of the saw blade in the range from 50 to 105 mm. There are some exceptions. For example, the longer Wilpu wood saw blade has a length of 155 mm.
Saw blades designed to make primal cuts and shape sawing are different. Saw blades with narrow blades are used for cutting out complex contours. To simplify the selection of the optimal saw blade, manufacturers use color markings. There is no single common naming scheme, and each manufacturer assigns colors in its own way.
For example, the blue Bosch and Blank&Desker saws are designed for cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metal workpieces. Bosch gray saws are used for cutting wood and plastic, and Blask&Desker saws of the same color are used for finishing cuts in wood.
Features of different types of saw teeth
When you design a saw blade, the manufacturers choose the optimal shape of teeth, dimensions, pitch and angles of sharpening that will provide the best cutting of the selected material. On the package of saws it is necessarily indicated for cutting which of the materials the blade is designed to cut. When choosing a saw blade keep in mind that the set teeth increase the cutting speed to the detriment of a clean cut.
Saw blades for cutting glass and ceramics have no teeth at all. Instead of teeth, the cutting edge is sprayed with carbide grains or diamond chips.
It is important to be clear about what the saw will be used for. Saw blades that are designed to make quality straight cuts can effortlessly hold a given sawing direction. But it will be difficult to cut a curve with them: a blade wide at the base will prevent from changing the sawing direction.
At the same time narrow saws for curvilinear cuts will require efforts when making straight sections of the cut. Adaptability to straight or curved cuts is also related to the geometry of the teeth and the features of their setting.
