Laying laminate – the task is not difficult, but, as in any case, there are secrets and tricks. We are talking about how to speed up, improve the quality and expand the possibilities of laying laminate with an electric jigsaw. Practice shows that the quality of laying is highly dependent on the quality of cutting the laminate elements in place. These days, almost every home has an electric jigsaw, and professionals even more so.
Need I mention that the material to be cut requires a certain type of jigsaw blades? If you try to saw laminate with a saw not designed for this purpose, there is a high probability of spoiling the workpiece with chips, uncontrollable “wiggling” of the saw.
To satisfactorily cut laminate with a jigsaw you will need a special saw. Before you go to the store for a laminate jigsaw, take a close look at the contents of your jigsaw case. After all, manufacturers, in response to demand, have recently begun to add special laminate saws to the tool kit as well.
The peculiarities of laminate saws are the shape, pitch and method of tooth setting, as well as the material of the saw blade. For example, the company Bosch positions as a laminate saw one of the manufactured bimetal blades “Special for laminate”, which is flexible and highly durable.
If you have not been able to buy a specialized laminate saw, you can use a saw with fine teeth and a narrow blade. For straight cuts a wider saw blade is also suitable. For shaped and curved cuts the following rule applies: the narrower the blade, the neater the cut. It can be recommended to make cuts on the back side of laminate panels. This is the way to achieve a cleaner cut edge on the front side.
In some cases you can use laminate files that have the tips of the teeth facing backwards. This eliminates the possibility of chipping when sawing from the front side of the material.
In any case, when choosing laminate saws don’t forget what shank you need for your jigsaw. Take note that jigsaws usually allow the use of blades with more than one type of shank. There are also “omnivorous” jigsaws whose clamping device holds any saw blade securely in place.
Saw blades for laminate, hardboard, chipboard and plywood are produced by Bosch (Bosch T101AIF, Bosch T101BF, T101BR), DeWALT (DT2164, DT2165, DT2220) and others.
Bosch T101BR – Standard laminate jigsaw blade with reverse tooth. When working with this saw the glossy laminate surface is not torn, so the cut is smooth and neat. It is also suitable for work on laminated wood.
