Causes of sudden jigsaw stoppage

Almost all cases of sudden stop of the jigsaw during work are due to the following reasons, most of which can be fixed by yourself:

The main causes of breakdowns

Power cable cut

The possibility of damage to the jigsaw power cable occurs if the cord is in front of or under the jigsaw. On some tools, the power cord is connected to terminals with screw terminals for easy replacement.

If the cut portion of the cable with the plug is long enough, it can be reconnected by first freeing small sections of the conductor from the insulation for connection. Otherwise, you must purchase and install a power cable that matches the specifications. Double-insulated power tools use two-core cables for the power supply.

There is no voltage on the power supply.

If other electrical appliances connected to the mains stop working it is worth checking the power distribution board: the fuse may have blown or a circuit breaker may have tripped. It is possible that the power supply has been interrupted.

The power plug is not inserted into the outlet.

Check that the jigsaw power plug is inserted in the socket.

The fuse in the power plug has tripped

The fuse on the power plug must be replaced in order to make the tool work again. If the newly installed fuse blows again the first time you turn the tool on, you should take the tool to a service center for diagnosis and repair.

No contact in the power plug

If the plug is collapsible, disassemble it and check the connection between the cable wires and the pins of the plug.

Hidden break in the power cord

If the power supply cable is connected by means of screw or self-locking terminals, it is permitted to check the continuity and replace the cable if necessary. For the power supply of double-insulated instruments, two-core cables are used. If it is not possible to replace the cable yourself, please contact the service center.

Tripping of the overheat protection

Many manufacturers equip their power tools with overheat protection, or thermal protection, which shuts off the motor when the motor reaches a certain temperature. One reason the motor heats up and triggers the thermal protection is due to clogged air vents.

The tool is restored to operation automatically when it has cooled down a little. The ventilation grilles can be cleaned periodically as a precaution. After a long period of cutting with a low sawing frequency, you can quickly cool down the jigsaw by removing the saw and starting the tool drive for 3 minutes at maximum frequency.

Start button failure

The start button of a modern jigsaw with a built-in regulator has a relatively complex design and nuances of connection, so if you suspect the malfunction of the button we recommend contacting a service center.

Contact fault in the internal circuits of the tool

Intensive use and high level of vibration during work can cause deterioration of contact in places where conductors are connected inside the tool. To correct the problem, disassemble the tool and inspect all accessible connection points. Screw terminals are particularly susceptible to this fault.

Discharging the battery pack (for cordless jigsaws)

If the battery is discharged, the jigsaw will not start. It is sufficient to recharge the battery. The battery must not be completely discharged or the battery may be completely destroyed. It is advisable to recharge the battery when the sawing frequency decreases noticeably.

Electric drive motor malfunction

A common cause of malfunctioning collector type electric motors used in hand held power tools is carbon conductor brushes wiped or blocked in the socket.
